A Word from our Lead Volunteers

March has always been a favourite month at Community Kitchen, the clocks change and the lighter evenings and hints of warmer weather make such a difference, especially for our guests, and it always brings a lovely change of energy into the hall. Serving our meals and letting guests get back to where they're staying while it’s still light outside is a big change, and it really lifts the mood for everyone.

This March was extra special as we held our second ever AGM on 12 March. A huge thank you to everyone who came along and took the time to be part of it. It was a really positive evening, reflecting on all that we’ve achieved together and setting the direction for the months ahead. Now the AGM is done and our annual report has been published, we’ve got lots of exciting work to get on with, and we’re already rolling up our sleeves.

We also had some brilliant news to celebrate... our second biennial food hygiene inspection! We’re delighted to say we passed with 5 stars once again! Huge thanks go to Debbie, Ruth, and everyone involved both behind the scenes and on the night. It’s a real team effort, and one we’re incredibly proud of. Well done, team!

Volunteer spotlight... Fran!

This month, we’re spotlighting the super‑volunteer Fran, who lights up the hall with her brilliant can‑do attitude. When she’s hosting, you’ll often find her writing up the menus for the week or getting her marigolds on and stuck into the washing up. More recently, when the call went out for people to give the kitchen a go, Fran jumped straight in and could be seen flipping pancakes and dishing up main meals with confidence. She’s a real team player, always ready to help wherever she’s needed, and an absolute pleasure to have as part of the Community Kitchen Glos team. Thank you, Fran, for everything you do, we’re so grateful to have you!

This month our guests loved...

Tortilla stack with rice and salad!

Cheesy, summery, and filled with veg - what's not to like?! This incredible meal, from chef Ruth, was a big hit with our guests in March and one that we'll be bringing back over summer for sure.

More Lead Volunteers!

While our Trustees focus on governance, finances, and making sure the charity is running as it should, all the real doing at CK is led by our incredible team of Lead Volunteers. They’re the people who keep Mondays running smoothly, support our volunteers, and help turn ideas into action.

So a very warm welcome to Cam, Yas and Giles, who this month joined the Lead Volunteer team. They join Molly, Dave, Becky, Harrie, Debbie and Ruth, bringing our Lead Volunteer team to nine in total.

We’re hugely grateful to all three for stepping up and giving their time, energy and skills so generously. Having them on board means we can do even more for our guests and community.
